Mattress Materials: What to Ask Before Buying

A useful materials description tells you what is in a mattress and what the supporting documentation actually covers. A marketing name alone does not establish performance.

Ask for a layer-by-layer specification

For any mattress you are considering, request the cover composition, comfort-layer materials, support construction, fire-barrier information and care instructions. Check whether a certificate applies to a component, a factory or the complete product.

Questions worth comparing

• What is the full construction of this exact model?
• Which material and performance claims are backed by documentation?
• Can the cover be removed, and what do the care instructions say?
• Which foundation types are permitted?
• How do the warranty and trial terms differ?
